We learned at the King County Green Tools Government Confluence today that King County Executive Dow Constantine declared today to be "Kathleen O’Brien Day" in honor of her over 20 years of service to the green building community. Governor Gregoire also honored Kathleen through a proclamation. Coordinated by the intrepid Patti Southard at King County, this event also recognized the tremendous achievements of the King and Snohomish County Built Green program and King County's Green Tools program. Both programs have benefited from Kathleen's touch during their remarkable development.
Both programs deserve credit for building the capacity of central Puget Sound to design, permit, construct and maintain high performance homes and communities. As testament to that, todays' Green Tools Government Confluence was held at the Pickering Barn in Issaquah, WA, on the eve of the Built Green Conference and Festival, featuring the official public launch of "zHome." In 2004, Pickering Barn was the venue for another Built Green Conference, which featured the Puget Sound Energy Built Green Idea Home. And yes, Kathleen was involved at the initiation of that project, too!
From a Green Idea to Net Zero Energy – what a trip it has been. And where to next?
