Engaging Residents
Engaging Residents of Affordable Housing Properties in Sustainable Actions
Affordable Housing developers and managers have led many efforts to include green and sustainable practices into the operation and maintenance of their buildings. In support of their work, and in partnership with Enterprise Green Communities, O’Brien & Company developed a set of Resident Engagement Tools.
These tools can help resident services directors meet their organization’s sustainability goals, help promote understanding of green features in their facilities, and support residents by sharing simple actions they can take to save money and lead a greener, healthier lifestyle. The tools are available for free download on the Enterprise Green Communities web site.
The cornerstone tool is a set of Resident Engagement ‘Cards’ which are designed to be entirely customizable to fit the unique needs of different audiences, properties, and geographic locales. The tools include tips on the customization process, however many affordable housing providers struggle to find the staff capacity to complete the customization project. Fortunately, Enterprise also has sustainability grants to provide outside support for customizing the tools and coming up with the most effective ways to use them.
As a Technical Assistance provider for Enterprise Green Communities, O’Brien & Company is available to help. We can walk Resident Services Directors and their staff through the process of customizing the tool for the organization and individual properties, identifying priority areas, synergies with existing resident engagement programs, and more.
For more information about the resources available:
- Download the set from the Enterprise Green Communities web site
- Read a case study of LINC Housing who customized the cards for their organization
