Coast Guard LEED-EB: O&M
O'Brien & Company, in conjunction with ECH Architecture, was hired by the US Coast Guard to perform an analysis of the Shore Ops building in Seattle. This building was previously certified under LEED-NC in 2006. Staff collected data about the facility to determine which credits were more easily attainable due to the previous certification, and identified challenges and opportunities for LEED-EB: O&M certification. The final report included a detailed plan for how the Coast Guard could move forward in pursuing certification.
In 2008 the Coast Guard decided to certify this building under LEED EBOM as a pilot project for their other facilities. Operational changes are underway and the team is aiming for LEED-EB Silver.
O'Brien & Company also developed a two-page LEED-EB: O&M Fact Sheet to help communicate to other Coast Guard facilities how the rating system might be able to help them save energy, water, and create healthier work environments. Download the fact sheet here.
