The new Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club and Rainier Valley Teen Center building is an important asset for the Rainier Valley community where kids can play, learn and grow.
O’Brien & Company helped the design and construction team define their sustainability goals and guide the team through the LEED certification process. Early in the project, we facilitated a LEED workshop at which participants identified sustainability goals. The group prioritized natural daylighting, energy efficiency, and the use of local and recycled content materials. As the design developed, we helped the team incorporate their sustainability goals into the drawings and specifications, select appropriate sustainable materials, and guide the LEED credit documentation.
The natural daylighting is so effective that at the grand opening on an overcast November day, there was no need to turn on the lights in the gym. In recognition of their achievements, the project received LEED Silver Certification.
