The OCEE building, located on the NSCC campus is a large office, classroom and information resource facility. It is primarily new construction with some renovation and expansion of the existing, underutilized Technology Building. O’Brien & Company was hired by the architect to assist in LEED project management. We led an initial eco-charrette and assisted throughout documentation of construction credits. O’Brien helped guide the development of documentation under EAc1, Optimize Energy Performance using the Core Performance Guide and the project achieved 4 points in this credit and there were no requests for clarification during the review phase, which is a true feat!
During construction, O’Brien coached the construction firm hired through the documentation process. The firm was not as familiar with LEED and needed significant coaching before much of the documentation was done by us using information they collected.
The college was mandated to achieve Silver certification but the team set their sights higher and delivered Gold Certification. O’Brien & Company worked closely with the design and construction teams to ensure credit requirements were being met and points achieved from schematic design through project completion. We provided guidance throughout with team check-ins and scorecard updates, ensuring at each step that Gold would be achievable in submitting more points than required to provide a Gold cushion.
