Neighborcare Health provides primary medical and dental care for low income and uninsured families and individuals. Recently, Neighborcare Health opened its first LEED Silver certified clinic, the Rainier Beach Medical & Dental Clinic.
O’Brien & Company was hired by the developer to assist in LEED project management. State funding required that the project achieve LEED Silver certification and O’Brien & Company helped the team meet its mark. Joining the project team at the start of construction meant that O’Brien & Company needed to perform a quick and accurate assessment on how the project design and construction initiatives would stack up against the higher standards of LEED v2009. The next essential step was communicating the requirements of LEED perquisites and targeted credits to the entire design and construction team.
One of O’Brien & Company’s talents is finding sustainable design strategies that are appropriate and beneficial to the project. In this vein, O’Brien & Company worked closely with Neighborcare Health to create a Green Housekeeping Plan that addresses cleaning practices, green cleaning product purchasing, and custodial training policy in clinic environment where control of the spread of diseases is the highest priority. O’Brien & Company packaged the Green Housekeeping Plan as a LEED Innovation & Design credit and GBCI accepted the plan during the first round of review.
