Kitsap Community Resources (KCR) serves 15,000 low-income Kitsap County residents annually through its Women-Infant-Children (WIC) nutrition program, early childhood education programs, food services, energy assistance, housing assistance, and employment and adult education services. Before completing the new 29,000 square foot facility, KCR programs were distributed among five buildings in the county. By consolidating, KCR is able to conserve energy, water, and resources while improving its services to County residents. KCR received two awards for achievements in environmentally responsible construction.
O’Brien & Company provided LEED project management to guide the project team to Silver certification, and helped the project achieve recycling of 90% of waste from construction, save 20% in energy costs relative to a standard code building, and implement “green” housekeeping and landscaping practices.
The project received the 2008 Kitsap County Earth Day Award for “green” construction from the Kitsap County Commissioners.
