The Health Sciences building, located on the Clover Park Technical College campus in Lakewood, WA consists of approximately 56,000 square feet of classroom space, computer labs, and two integrated science labs to support healthcare career training programs at the college.
The facility was recognized as one of the Top 10 economic development projects by the Tacoma-Pierce County Economic Development Board in 2013. The project incorporated such sustainability features as a patio/roof garden, an educational herbal garden, landscaping using native plants, energy efficient lighting and HVAC, water saving plumbing features and a rooftop photovoltaic system.
O’Brien & Company was brought on by the design team as LEED quality assurance specialists and assisted with earning the college its first LEED Gold certified project to date. O’Brien provided LEED project management services, including project manual review and comments, and scorecard management. In addition, O’Brien performed in depth reviews of all design phase and construction phase documentation and gave guidance on questions that arose surrounding credits such as LEED boundary and parking issues. O’Brien conducted a construction kick-off meeting with the contractor, who had little experience with LEED and continued to provide guidance through substantial completion of the project.
