Kathleen is a nationally recognized leader in the field of sustainability, having been in the field as a writer, educator, strategic planner, and project consultant since 1991. Kathleen is a LEED Accredited Professional, a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor, and earned her Masters at Antioch University in Environment and Community. Her first book, The Northwest Green Home Primer (Timberpress) is her first full-length publication aimed at the layperson. Kathleen’s forte is to distill abstract concepts into meaningful ideas you can put into practice.
Kathleen has contributed significantly to the development of continuing education programs for professionals in the green building industry. While at O’Brien & Company, she helped develop and advance the Sustainable Building Advisor program across the US and Canada. After transitioning ownership of O’Brien & Company to Alistair Jackson, Elizabeth Powers and Donna Trost in 2011, Kathleen embarked on her legacy education project the Emerge Leadership Project and now has her second book, Emerge, A Strategic Leadership Model for the Sustainable Building Community, in print.
