Dream a Sound Future
Staff builds city of the future
As an activity for our annual company retreat, O'Brien & Company entered the Sustainable Seattle competition to Dream a Sound Future.
The contest challenged entrants to create the vision of a sustainable future for the Seattle and Puget Sound area focusing on climate change, social justice and happiness. Entries were open to writing, poetry, inventions, one-act plays, sketch comedy, short films, paintings, drawings, architectural plans, maps, and more.
Our staff chose to build a clay model of a sustainable city--in just one hour. The first hour was spent visioning and brainstorming and, in the second hour, we got to work. In small groups we built a transportation system, urban farms, mountains with windmills on top, community gathering spaces and natural areas, buildings that generated energy, and wildlife corridors. Everything connected to Puget Sound.
The model was on display in the Colman Building as well as with the other contest entries at the Seattle Center.
