On January 27, 2016, The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) designated O’Brien & Company a LEED® Proven Provider™ for the LEED BD+C rating system family. This designation was developed to streamline the LEED project review process for experienced organizations that demonstrate consistent excellence in administering LEED projects. Being accepted as a Proven Provider required that we demonstrate excellence through high quality submissions during an evaluation period.
O’Brien & Company committed to becoming a Proven Provider through the pilot program so that we can offer our clients faster reviews with better results. The program is for projects that are suited for the program, and where we play a key role in LEED Project Management or are the official LEED Administrator. However, O’Brien & Company brings the expertise and lessons learned from the LEED Proven Provider program to all the projects we touch. We are targeting certification for about 20 of these projects per year and working to expand our Proven Provider services to LEED ID+C and O+M projects.
We work with FSi Consulting Engineers to provide technical assistance and quality assurance on mechanical and commissioning credits, which results in LEED submittals that receive very few, if any, comments and requests for clarifications. In fact, one of our earliest LEED Proved Provider projects received no comments on the Energy and Atmosphere prerequisite and credit for energy performance – a pair that frequently sees numerous comments. O’Brien & Company will continue to work with FSi in this capacity to deliver services as a Proven Provider over the long term.
LEED Proven Provider is designed to encourage and reward high-quality LEED project submissions to minimize the need for additional work during the project review process. It represents an opportunity for O’Brien & Company and LEED reviewers to work together to enhance the LEED certification experience, simultaneously allowing O’Brien & Company to further invest in quality control and continuous improvement while allowing LEED reviewers more opportunities for direct engagement with and support for project teams.
