Affordable housing professionals have a busy dance card this fall, and O’Brien & Company is pleased to have partnered on several opportunities that bring a range of sustainability issues to the forefront.
Elly Bunzendhal was a guest speaker at the Housing Development Consortium (HDC)’s September monthly gathering of two influential working groups: asset and property managers, and those representing a ‘practical development solutions’ group. The group’s focus was identifying opportunities to influence operational sustainability in existing portfolios and new buildings. Elly first led the group in a tour of various controls that optimize operations and minimize resource use across a portfolio, and then looked at different intersections where resident and staff behavior and regular actions can play a role. Contact Elly directly to get a follow up list of available tools and resources shared with the group – most of them free to the public!
Then in October, Elly teamed up with a dynamic team of presenters for two different sessions at this year’s Housing Washington, the annual statewide conference on affordable housing. Elly and Third Place Design Co-operative’s Poppi Handy tackled topics ranging from equity to indoor air quality in a fast-paced and informative look at trending topics in green affordable housing. A later session brought forward stories from the trenches and action-oriented tips for how to save water and money, as well as a sneak peak of water-related changes in the new Evergreen Sustainable Development Standard.
